Dr. Kyle Kunze is a nationally and internationally recognized physician-scientist whose research is positioned at the intersection of orthopedic sports medicine and artificial intelligence. He has authored more than 250 peer-reviewed publications and delivered invited lectures across the United States, South America, and Europe, reflecting a research program built on both remarkable productivity and global reach. His recent work pioneers the use of AI to individualize patient care — from predicting who will benefit most from surgery to developing tools that forecast long-term outcomes and complications before they occur — with the ultimate goal of moving beyond one-size-fits-all treatment toward care tailored to each patient's unique risk profile and goals.
This innovative approach has earned him some of the field's highest honors, including the American Journal of Sports Medicine Best Systematic Review Award, multiple AANA awards for excellence in AI and robotics research, and competitive research grants from AANA, POSNA, and the OREF. He also serves as an Associate Editor for Arthroscopy: The Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Surgery - the #1 ranked orthopedic sports medicine journal. He has also guest-edited several special journal issues on artificial intelligence in musculoskeletal care. Together, his leadership roles reflect his standing as a trusted voice shaping the future of the field. Above all, his research is driven by a single mission: using data and technology to help patients heal faster, recover more fully, and receive care built specifically around them.
Certified in Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare through MIT, Dr. Kunze has developed and studied clinical tools that forecast surgical outcomes, predict complication risk, and support clinical decision-making in hip, knee, and shoulder care. His work has been featured in prominent journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine. He is an invited speaker annually at both national and international meetings to teach others about this evolving area of medicine.
